Chanes to Cavs Court Bookings

We can no longer use the second court (ie the other side of the curtain) at the Cavs venue at our leisure.
We have been advised by the Centre Administration that we will now be charged for its use.

CAVALIERS has arranged to make, and pay for, a permanent booking for the second court on Saturday afternoons from 2.30 - 4.30pm throughout the year.

SO - please do not use the second court on either Wednesday evening, or prior to 2.30pm on Saturdays.

This will be a strict rule, and we will be reported if we are found to be breaking the regulation.

Our club continues to maintain a very friendly working relationship with the Administration through our reputation of good behaviour. Lets keep up the good work and continue to adhere to the rules.

Many thanks.

Foil Mask and Referee Requirements

Foil Mask - Conductive Bib Requirement

The AFF Executive has quite recently become aware of an emerging proposal of the FIE Semi Commission to possibly require the homologation of the "retro bib" to existing foil masks. Such a proposal is still within the FIE policy consideration process. However, if adopted, this would raise a significant issue for the AFF under its current national competition equipment standard which requires fencers to compete in equipment at the current FIE standard.

Consequently the AFF Executive has decided to suspend the AFF's previous decision to require the conductive bib on foil masks for national open and veteran tournaments, pending further consideration of this matter at the upcoming AFF General Meeting in May.

In addition, the current Australian suppliers of Fencing equipment that have developed their own system for adapting current foil masks with a conductive bib, will be invited to have their adapted masks available for evaluation at the upcoming DH McKenzie Tournament in Canberra.

This evaluation, together with any formal statement from the FIE, will inform the AFF General Meeting. An updated statement will be issued after this May meeting.

Policy for Appointment of Referees

For national tournaments in 2008 the AFF adopted a new policy for the appointment of referees. This policy was reviewed and, with some minor modifications, was adopted by the December 2008 AFF General Meeting to apply for all open and veteran national tournaments from 2009.

The key updates for that policy are that:
  • fencers are no longer required to notify and pay with their competition entry via State Associations of their non-involvement in the scheme. They must do so however at the time of roll call for their events at the national tournament, together with the required payment of the premium payment for not refeering.
  • the red card penalty for initial refusal to participate and a black card penalty for subsequent refusal will apply from the first national tournament in 2009. From 2010, the refusal will incur a black card penalty.
An updated policy is here for information and circulation.

Cavaliers DT Team (Directoire Tournament)

For those new to the club, the following system applies for WAFA competitions.

Each club is allocated certain competitions for which they must act as Host (see the calendar). ie the Host Club must supply DT, referees, scorers, timers, equipment transport, set up and pack away, and general run-about.

It is also expected that each club helps to provide equipment and personnel for all comps.

At Cavs, we have a DT Team List for all those interested in helping out when these competitions arise.

At the moment, Cavs is allocated WAFA Open #2 mid May, and WAFA Cadet #3 end June. Sometimes these dates change.

If you are interested in helping out at competitions, please let Gillian know.

Upcoming Fencing Competitions

WAFA Competitions start in March 2009.

Please check the WAFA website for details of competitions and other WAFA news.

For new people to our club - the State competitions are run by WAFA, and each fully paid up member of Cavs is automatically affiliated to WAFA and is eligible to compete. Registration for competitions is usually done on line. National competition is run by the Australian Fencing Federation and details can be accessed on both the WAFA and AFF websites.
