Cavs Notice Board - Cavs AGM results‏

CAVALIERS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Thanks to all fencers who attended the AGM Saturday 10th November.

The elected positons for 2013 are as follows:

President: Position Vacant
Vice President: Mike Middleton
Secretary: Gillian Kings-Lynne
Treasurer: Mahmud Jaffar
Registrar: Isobel Ellis
Coaching Co-ordinator: Kylie Caunt
WAFA Representative: Damien Kuruckchi
Equipment Manager: Drew Foley and Ian Walker
Armourer: Perry Ruffo
Tournament Manager: Melanie McCarthy
Social Secretary: Dylan Devenish
Librarian: Grace Rosario
Promotions Officer: Position Vacant
Web Page Manager: Kylie Caunt
ECU Liasion: Gillian Kings-Lynne

Other Help:
Bladez Assistant Registrar: Toby Hodgson
Washing Clothing: Justina Foley has been doing this, any more volunteers?

We thank all those who have offered to continue with their position on the Committee, and welcome the new members coming on for the first time. We thank everyone for their time and effort in keeping the club going - and improving!
While the above people have formally offered their assistance, all club members need to play a part in promoting the best atmosphere possible. See below.

HOW CAN THE GENERAL CLUB MEMBERS HELP CAVS?
Looking after club equipment and packing up after the session.
All hands on deck for this.

Tournaments:
You can offer to help out at tournaments at club and state level - scoring, timekeeping, learning the computer system, setting up and packing away pistes and equipment. Put your name on the Cavs DT Team list so that Melanie has a great army of helpers to round up for the WAFA comps.

Social:
Promote the Cavs Happy Hour. Any ideas for social occasions, Dylan would love to know what you want. Plenty of helpers required to organise these events. Don't forget we have access to the bowling club room and its kitchen facilities now.

Coaching:
If you feel you have a leaning towards Coaching, please let Kylie know and register for the next course coming up in early 2013. We are very short of Coaches at all levels. Don't forget that a coaching course is of great value to your fencing technique, even if you don't want to be a Coach!

Equipment:
What a mess that cupboard gets into? Anyone who helps to keep this gear in order, clothes on hangers, is valued!

If you can help out with loads of washing, please let Drew know. Learn how to fix your own weapons. Label broken club equipment correctly. Learn how to be an Armourer for the future!

Membership:
Pay your membership when it is due. Don't make us have to chase you for money! Remember that Cavs is one of the cheapest sporting clubs in town.

O Day Stalls:
Early each year we need 3 - 4 fencers to help out on the ECU campus stall.

Newsletter:
Any photos of fencers or Cavs events, please send to Gillian who will keep them on hold for the next edition. Any personal write-ups from people who travel to competitions or to overseas fencing venues are always of interest.

WAFA Representation:
Any one interested in helping out with WAFA is welcome to go to its meetings at any time during the year. This is another level of fencing interest, and the more Cavs representation we have at WAFA, the more advantageous it will be for our club.

Female Fencing Day
2nd September
Excalibur Community Fencing Club
South Fremantle Senior High School Gym
Annie Street, Beaconsfield

WAFA is trying to encourage the female fencers of WA to compete. To foster this competition environment WAFA has organised a whole day dedicated to it! We'd love all the ladies of the club to compete in this competition! Even enter weapons that aren't your own. Also gentlemen to volunteer as referees would be excellent too!
Another part of this female fencing day is for beginners. So if you have any friends that you could coerce into giving the sport a go please bring them along!

For those interested in joining a course the most important information is as follows:
  • Beginner Courses are for 13 years to adult.

  • The seven-week course costs $85 payable by cash or cheque at the first session.

Additional Fencing Sessions - Club Training Times

Additional Fencing Sessions - Club Training Times

A number of WAFA fencers have expressed an interest in taking part in additional fencing sessions at other clubs, with the aim of increasing their fencing experience (and the experience of other fencers that they join in with).
If you are interested in visiting these other clubs (in addition to your own club's fencing sessions) then please find details of other WAFA affiliated clubs as follows
Most clubs do not charge for occasional visitors. If you intend to visit another club regularly then a fee may apply for these frequent visits, please discuss with the club.
Fencers visiting a club for the first time should make themselves known to the club coaches and/or officials.
Visitors are expected to comply with safety requirements of the club they are visiting.
Visitors are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and should not interfere with club training sessions or monopolize club equipment for their sole use.
Visitors must be affiliated to WAFA or similar to ensure appropriate insurance cover.
