Western Australian Fencing Association ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, DINNER and AWARDS NIGHT
THE AGM was held today with a disappointing turn out, not only from Cavs, but from other clubs as well.
Cavs, a club with just over 90 members, managed to gather up a group of less than 10 members to attend the meeting. Many thanks to those who did attend. It was good to meet up with friends from other clubs and do a bit of promotion work at the same time.
WAFA urgently requires a Treasurer who is familiar with MYOB. If you are at all interested, please let me know. Parents are very welcome to join the committee. There is no requirement to be a fencer.
CAVS urgently requires a Club Representative to act for our club at the WAFA meetings. Again, this is a very important job, and parents who are non-fencers are welcome to take it on.
THE DINNER AND AWARDS - There were nearly 40 people at the very pleasant dinner and awards presentation. Hopefully next year will see a larger representation from Cavs.
The following categories were awarded to Cavs fencers.
U/13 M Foil Champion - Darren Martin
U/15 M Foil Runner Up - Blaise Walker
U/17 M Foil Runner Up - Blaise Walker
U/20 W Foil Runner Up - Elizabeth Pedler
U/20 M Foil Runner Up - Blaise Walker
Open W Epee Runner Up - Sarah MacFarlane
Open M Epee Champion - Marek Jamrozy
Open M Foil Runner Up - Nick Gillooly
Open M Foil Champion - Marek Jamrozy
Vets M Foil Champion - Ian Walker
Vets W Foil Champion - Carol Bahemia
Vets W Epee Champion - Kylie Caunt
Vets W Sabre Champion - Vlasta Barac
Peter Briggs Most Improved Cadet - Declan Allen and Kate Duff (to share the award)
Life Member - Mahmud Jaffar
Life Member - Gillian Kings-Lynne
Special Mention of Coaches who have helped WAFA 2008 include Marek Jamrozy
Our warmest congratulations to the above winners and runners-up. Well done.
I will publish the full list when it comes through to me formally.
While WAFA is seen by most people in relation to competition fencing, it certainly covers a far wider sphere. Cavaliers strongly supports the Association by affiliating each of its members. We feel very strongly about this. No club can operate in isolation. The development of fencing can only advance if all clubs fully support the Association.
Western Australia's largest and longest running fencing club. (Est.1955)

Annual General Meeting and BBQ
AGM HELD TODAY and SAUSAGE SIZZLE
WE REQUIRE TWO POSITIONS TO BE FILLED, PLEASE.
[1] WAFA REPRESENTATIVE (Requires some commitment)
[2] CAVALIERS TOURNAMENT OFFICER (reasonably easy) (Not to be confused with the WAFA Tournament Chairman position!!!)
The AGM held to day at Cavs was a successful event with 33 members attending.
The Executive Committee has been returned except for the position of WAFA Representative, which will need to be filled ASAP.
** Anyone interested in finding out more about this position please ask via return email.
New offers of help came from Maya Polanski, Robin Huth, Elisabeth Scibiorski, Cameron Gregg, Gabriella Ullaga and Hannah Hickling.
Welcome and many thanks to you all.
** We are still looking for a Tournament Officer - an easy job which can be done mostly during session times, with perhaps a bit of email time at home. Anyone interested please ask me for details.
SAUSAGE SIZZLE
We had a great sausage sizzle with 35 people in attendance. Enjoyed a 3 course meal with the biggest strawberries you have ever seen. Many thanks to Steve, Cameron's Dad, who did the cooking. It was fantastic to have the help.

AFF #3 in Perth in August
After a relatively quiet, but successful, national tournament in Perth, fencing life is settling back to normal now. The four days of fencing provided a good chance for people to catch up with Eastern States friends and to see some good fencing.
